Ever wondered which low-carb marketing companies DON’T sell products that taste like chalk? Obviously those that exist from heaven, because there is no such thing on this Earth. However, ThinSlim not included. I got a sample pack to review all of their intriguing foods because I was oh-so curious by the What I Ate Wednesday videos and Instas that sported such unreal looking products and decided to give it a shot. I totally regret it because now I am so hooked on this company that I’ll never go back. Like, ever. You’ll see why 😉
Before I get into the individual goods, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you stick all of these goodies (‘cept the pasta) in the freezer before eating them, otherwise they do expire (says on the label). I’ve had terrible experience with sprouted bread molding too early and throwing out almost an entire loaf! Made me so sad!!
Anyways, first up on the block is the vanilla muffin. To be honest I was pretty underwhelmed by looking at it because it was kinda smushed up a little and looked deflated as a result. It’s not very large and fits the size of my palm, but it’s only 40 calories, 1 g fat, 2 g digestible carbs, 8 g fiber, 0 grams of sugar, 10 g sugar alcohols and 6 g protein.
I microwaved this muffin for a little less than 30 seconds and topped it with some almond butter and Greek yogurt. My first bite however was OVERWHELMING! It is incredibly soft, SWEET, melt-in-your-mouth DELICIOUS! Doesn’t taste like those disgusting fat free sugar free vanilla protein powder muffins that are so hard to bite into!
Second up are the two cookies I received: chocolate chip and vanilla glaze!
Good news, the chocolate chip cookie is very sweet, crumbly and bready! Bad news is that some others (like my sisters) would find it a little too chewy, AND they are not enough chocolate chips!! Overall, it is a 50/50 product that I wouldn’t mind eating again but wouldn’t necessarily purchase or hunt down.
The vanilla glazed cookie, however, made up for the measly chocolate chips in the chocolate chip cookie! The glaze tastes just like that of a donut! This has the same sweetness and texture of the chocolate chip cookie, except with more FLAVA! Two thumbs up on my part! Oh, and enjoy warm with a glass of your favorite milk!
Next up is the pasta, which I’ll admit I was quite scared about!
In one serving (there are four servings total) there is 65 calories, 6 grams of protein, 36 grams of fiber and 8 grams of net carbs! All you basically do is boil the pasta in water, strain it and mix it in anything you like!
I was meal prepping and mixed half with tomato sauce and half with curry sauce! It’s doughy and soft like normal pasta! You really won’t tell the difference between this and normal fettuccine. It does have wheat protein isolate, so it’s not gluten free. What I really love is that this pasta is super absorbent of whatever sauce you dunk it in, so it takes on any flavor you want–like shirataki without the chewiness from the konjac root!
Below is a sample with plain homemade tomato sauce, which looks really yucky but was SO GOOD–add a little oregano, garlic, parmesan and two or three meatballs and you’ll be in Italy.
Another awesome way to have this pasta is with leftover curry! I also had some with salmon and paneer pea curry for a lunch on the go.
For breakfast (YES for breakfast) one morning I ate some marinara ThinSlim pasta steaming hawt with Sriracha, cooked spinach, sundried tomatoes, goat cheese and a failed poached egg on top. The recipe is coming soon in a separate post! 😀 Who would’ve thought you could have healthy pasta to start the day?
Next I have one of the products I was the most excited but also worried about: Love the Taste plain bread!
Each slice has 50 calories, 7 grams of protein, 2 grams of fat, 8 grams of carbs (1 net) and 7 grams of fiber! Now how is THAT for some protein bread?! Plus it’s diabetic friendly–I have a genetic history with both types of diabetes, so this is a great bread that won’t spike insulin. The only con is that this bread is not gluten free, so if you do have an intolerance to it, then don’t buy this. It’s also not very sweet, so if you’re looking to have some sweet toast, add fruit or a sweetener like honey or Stevia to it.
As for taste, there’s a special way to make it so that it doesn’t taste bad. The trick here to not having crazy chewy and almost chalky bread is to microwave it for 20-30 seconds and THEN toast it if you want to. I personally enjoy it just microwaved–with my favorite dessert combo being peanut butter and blueberry preserves! Mmmmm! Makes me think of childhood!
It’s not even grainy! My sister couldn’t even tell what it was made out of because it wasn’t even brown like whole grain bread!
Because this bread isn’t very sweet, I enjoy it savory quite often. Check out my curried egg toast! Sooooooo tasty I devoured it in seconds!
Last and the LEAST (not really) out of all the products: the bagels.
Because of the horrendous photo quality (mass apologies!), the nutritional profile reads 100 calories, 4 g fat (2 g saturated, so it is more fat than a typical bagel), 180 mg sodium (MUCH better than many bagels), 2 g digestible carbohydrates, 14 g fiber, NO sugar and 14 g of protein. Well, if that doesn’t sound so unbelievably untrue to you, then I don’t know what it!
I tried one with a little peanut butter and jelly as a sweet snack and noticed that I absolutely despised the FLUFFINESS, FLAVOR MASK, and how I FELT I WASN’T EVEN EATING A HIGH PROTEIN BAGEL. Psh, I literally felt so cheated XD
As you can tell, I hated them and NEVER touched them since putting them back in the freezer after my first bite. Never did anythin’ with them at all.
I mean, ERW.
Okay, I think my sarcasm is killing some people.
*turns off sarcasm*
With that aside, the ThinSlim bagels won “best product of the pack” by a veeeerrrrryyyyyy narrow landslide. ALL of the ThinSlim products I received were astounding. Before I say that I recommend all of these products to you, everyone’s tastebuds are different. Some of my family members didn’t like the taste of them while others did. I suggest looking at a lot of other reviews and then deciding on the pros and cons. For me, ThinSlim is definitely an awesome company that I’ll buy from again!!
