Yup/B-Up Bar Review: Mint Chocolate, Sugar Cookie and Cinnamon Roll

‘Tis finally here! Over my Maui vacay I got the wonderful privilege to try all of my B-Up bars from a sample pack I got in the mail! I squealed with excitement when I found the box. Seriously. I find happiness in such simplicity. I first heard about these babies on @pbeechie‘s Instagram of her raving about one of the bars legitimately tasting like cookie dough. I thought: Oh. Em. Gee. Where do I find these. On their website I couldn’t decide which one I desired the most, so I went all out and got the 3-sampler pack. Whelp, in a way I saved money instead of buying all three separately. 😉

COMPANY’S PURPOSE

They have the same motive as Quest Nutrition: a high protein, low net-carb bar made with all-natural ingredients that can be pronounced and are healthy. If you check out all the items they use in their products there’s nothing to fear. Also, nutritional info play a major role when I select a bar and B-Up delivers wonderful macros with 180 calories per bar with a whopping 20 grams of protein, 20 grams of fiber, only 2 grams of sugar and 120 mg of sodium. I personally don’t count these but B-Up has a meager 6 grams of net carbs, another plus for many of you. And one more thing: I really like the name of the bar “B-Up”. It’s empowering! Enough with the babbling, let’s get onto the flavas!

MINT CHOCOLATE Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset

PROS

This bar was incredible! Texture-wise it is a lot like a Quest bar. There are real dark chocolate chunks and you really taste the minty-ness. I loved how it wasn’t very sweet and was very real to the flavor. Next time if I get these bars I will definitely buy this flavor!

CONS

It took me several chews to get used to the pungence of the mint because I’m not an expert in anything mint-chocolate. I got the peppermint extract from Whole Foods only recently, plus it’s been ages since my Baskin Robbins mint-chocolate chip ice cream days are long over. Hence if you don’t eat anything minty often, be prepared for a big punch of mint, which in all is a good thing!

SUGAR COOKIE IMG_3758

PROS

Contrary to my expectations it doesn’t taste like those supermarket frosted sugar cookies in those packages that are sold for birthday parties and such. This was only subtly sugary, which is perfect for me but maybe not so much for those of you who want a sweeter bar. It’s to die for if you microwave it for a couple seconds. MY GAH. And with peanut butter or almond butter. Best invention!

CONS

Don’t eat on a plane. Especially if you’re lactose intolerant.

CINNAMON ROLL B-Up Bar Picture

PROS

Here’s the scenario in my head: “So this happened. I have no idea how it got stuck to the wrapper or how I’ll try it. The macros are the same and all but this bar is slightly less calories than the previous two I recently reviewed. Okay, I’ll break off a piece and taste test….hm, it smells pretty good..mm..OMFG………where’d it go?????” Pretty self-explanatory.

CONS

Only two –

  1. My bar was pretty sticky but that’s because it was on-the-road and bumping around all over the place in the car 😦
  2. More time to savor this beauty. Otherwise, it’s perfection in a wrapper.

OVERALL

B-Up has a lot of potential from the success I’ve encountered with their bars. So far, though, they’re really expanding! And ICYMI, they just came out with delicious flavors such as Peanut Butter, Vanilla Peanut Butter, and classic PB&J! Sounds great because I am a PB freak like many others! And unlike other protein brands they came out with fruit-filled bars known as B-Jammin’! Think apple pie ala mode, peanut butter and jelly and vanilla cherry pie in a delicious, low sugar, high protein bar that will fuel your day. How can you not be sold?

B-Up bars are perfect for eating with a post-workout green smoothie, with Greek yogurt, smothered in peanut butter, fresh from the wrapper or from the oven. You betta invest in one of these bars ASAP!

Anyways imma go enjoy a B-Up cinnamon roll bar now. Broiled in the oven. With Justin’s on top. You jelly? 😛

    1. Quest bars are amazing! I usually don’t get the ones with sucralose though. The one pitfall is that the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough bar is overrated–too sweet for me! 😛 Anyways, I’m not sure if Yup and B-up bars ship to Canada, but you can email them or look on their website to find out! 😀 hope this helps!
